Today we’d like to introduce you to Asia Turner
Asia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always wanted to pursue a career in fashion, i just never knew how to go about it. One day I decided to create a secondary instagram account and start posting curated outfits on TikTok. Started gaining followers on both and got the opportunity to style local nail tech, Zoe; lvlupnailz for a concert a few months back. Most recently I styled someone from TikTok for a concert in Nashville. I’ve always wanted to do personal stylist; as I’ve always been the friend people seek out for fashion advice and to borrow clothing from. Currently I’m a working stylist for Strike Magazine at WashU. I have been researching how to make a career from this since I was 15, and am currently working on my personal styling certificate online with FIT. My final assignment will be to style a photoshoot. I’m very proud of my progress in such a short amount of time.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, this is not an easy task, especially being in the Midwest, however I am so grateful for everyone who gives me opportunities to style them or to make connections. It’s really hard to get views and get more clients, not everyone has money to spend on things that aren’t necessities. And I completely understand that which is why I work with budgets but also try not to undermine myself and my talents. You also have to worry about people trying to stiff you on prices or people who don’t effectively communicate or don’t respect the fact that I take deposits first before starting my work.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I currently curate outfits online, I just moved so I’m currently working on a setup so I can start curating more outfits and making content from my personal collection. I prefer to specialize in concert outfits and style bundles! This Friday night, 10/17, I will be vending for the first time and I’m very excited. I’m most proud of myself for not being discouraged if I don’t get clients too often or if people don’t like what I post. I think the fact that my own personal style is influenced by so many, yet remain authentically myself and im friendly sets me apart from others, and you can tell I’m very passionate about what I do.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Helping others either, step out of their comfort zone when it comes to clothing or just helping people feel more confident in what they’re wearing! But also finding clothing for my own closet that I wanted growing up!
