Rising Stars: Meet Brittany Townsend

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Townsend. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Brittany Townsend has been a St. Louis, Missouri, native for over three decades and has seen her fair share of adversity. Growing up in the 12th ward of St. Louis, she had suffered from multiple childhood illnesses that had left her weakened and struggling. Despite her struggles, she remained resilient and focused on her goals.

After completing high school, Brittany enrolled in the University of Missouri- St. Louis, hoping to obtain a degree in biology & psychology. However, her chronic illness forced her to drop out, leaving her unsure what to do next. Then, she decided to become a city letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. This job allowed her to serve her community while also supporting herself financially. She took pride in her work, delivering mail with a smile and a friendly greeting to everyone on her routes throughout the greater St. Louis & surrounding areas. Her customers loved her, and many recommended her for other jobs.

Then, in April 2020, Brittany’s life changed in an instant. She was in a devastating car accident on Interstate 70 that nearly killed her. She spent months in physical therapy & outpatient care, fighting to recover from her injuries. But even amid her pain and suffering, she found a new purpose.

Brittany realized she wanted to do more for the greater St. Louis area. She wanted to make a difference in people’s lives and help them find their path to success. After her recovery, Brittany began to receive many recommendations from her fellow customers on her USPS routes to become a realtor. She saw this as an opportunity to continue serving her community while pursuing her passion for real estate. With the encouragement of her friends and family, she decided to become a realtor.

At first, Brittany was nervous about her new career. She had never worked in real estate before and was curious if she had what it took to succeed. But with her natural warmth and positivity, she quickly became a hit with her clients. Brittany has worked hard to become an aspiring real estate agent. Her years of experience as a letter carrier have given her a unique perspective on the city. She’s dedicated herself to helping families find their dream homes in the greater St. Louis and surrounding areas. Her passion for serving her community didn’t stop there, though. She also started getting involved in local politics, attending city council meetings, and advocating for change. Brittany’s dream is to one day become an alderwoman for Ferguson. She believes that by working in local government, she can make a real difference in the lives of the people in her community and help promote change for the greater good.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It could have been a smoother road—a few speed bumps and detours.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My current career is as a city letter carrier and aspiring real estate agent. These crafts allow me to serve the public and shine light throughout many neighborhoods.

Networking and finding a mentor can positively impact one’s life and career. Any advice?
I talk to everyone, especially on my mail routes. I can network with many due to my spirit and friendly demeanor.
