Rising Stars: Meet Darcy Wente-Hahn of Edwardsville Illinois

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darcy Wente-Hahn.

Darcy Wente-Hahn

Hi Darcy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It all started with my partner and I sharing a deep love for Halloween—it’s always been our favorite season and holiday. We love going all out with decorations at home, and skeletons have always been the centerpiece of our displays. For our 15th wedding anniversary, I decided to make him a handmade gift, and of course, I wanted to tie it into our love for skeletons and Halloween. That’s how I ended up creating our very first product: 3D skeletons posed as The Lovers tarot card. I really enjoyed the process and started experimenting with other poses. Eventually, I got the courage to share my work on social media, and to my surprise, people were interested in buying them! What started as a personal project has since evolved into a small business specializing in replica bones, real bones, and oddities. There’s still plenty of room to grow, but we’re excited about where we are and what’s to come.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Yes and no. Is it easy? Definitely not—it’s exhausting. Does everything go smoothly? Also, no. We’ve had our share of failed projects and have had to let go of ideas we thought were great. Honestly, there are moments when we have no idea what we’re doing. But despite all of that, we haven’t hit any major roadblocks, and nothing has made us feel like building this business isn’t worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We create and curate the odd, the weird, and the delightfully spooky. Our specialty is replica bones, and we’ve become known for our emotionally charged posed skeletons. While we do offer real bones, they can be pricey, and even though most dealers claim their bones are ethically sourced, it’s hard to truly verify where they come from. Replica bones, on the other hand, are more affordable and eliminate any ethical concerns. What really sets us apart from other bone and oddities shops is our focus on how you can use these pieces to genuinely enhance your home. We don’t want you to just walk away with a replica goat skull or a skeleton in a dramatic pose. We want you to go home with a vision for your mantle, gallery wall, or bookshelf, turning these pieces into something that feels like a part of your space.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My partner is truly half of this business. While I may have started it, he’s been there to help carry out every idea. If he’s not in the workshop helping me create, build, or brainstorm, he’s at home cooking dinner, doing homework with one of the kids, or giving the dog a bath. I couldn’t do any of this without him.
