Today we’d like to introduce you to Elisabeth Bradshaw & Lauren Hopkins.
Hi Elisabeth & Lauren, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We’re designer sisters (interior and fashion) obsessed with bargains, finding beauty in unexpected places, and using our talents to better our community. Lauren graduated from Duke University with a degree in Art History and Architecture and then went on to study interior design at the New York School of Interior Design.
After getting her start at Ralph Lauren Home, she worked for Alessandra Branca and then Frank Ponterio in Chicago. Liz has a BFA in Fashion Design from Washington University in St. Louis and spent a decade designing women’s and children’s clothing in New York and Milwaukee before making the leap from apparel to interiors.
Celeste & Pearl really developed organically while we were working in our respective industries. A few friends asked us for design help. Then they referred us to their friends who referred us to their friends, and all of a sudden we realized maybe we had something!
Since we don’t live in the same city we were emailing each other constantly. “This rug went on sale… what is your honest on these pillows?” E-design was the way we designed our own homes because we were so busy, so it felt like others would crave that as well, especially if they could have an approachable “sister-like” designer at their service.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We’ve ultimately found success not because we always get it right but rather because we haven’t been afraid to make mistakes, own up to them, and course correct quickly.
In the beginning, we spent way too much time for what we were earning per project, but we were learning as we went.
We always want clients to love the process and end product, so we’ve picked up how to streamline our operations more efficiently without losing the personal attention that is so important to the kind of design we believe in.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are an online Interior Design service with a philanthropic core.
We specialize in offering approachable, personalized design (like working with your sister!), and unlike the bigger box firms, we are not satisfied until our clients are. We are passionate about removing the pressure to purchase that is commonly experienced in this industry.
We empower our clients to buy only the recommendations that work for them and on their timelines. We are also enormously proud to donate a portion of every project to the Women Build division of Habitat for Humanity.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
We feel grateful that remote residential interior design is definitely an industry that benefited from the shift to working from home.
This also taught us how to more appropriately manage our calendar as business increased exponentially!
