Today we’d like to introduce you to Filippo Giovannini.
Hi Filippo, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been studying art since I was young, first at an art high school, then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence.
I got into model making when I was around 14, and after finishing my studies, I began combining my passion for art and model making.
I started by working and studying with Greebo Games, and then embarked on my own adventure with Crosslances.
I was a pioneer in 3D printing, firmly convinced that one day anyone would be able to print anything at home with their own printer.
Today it seems almost obvious, but 10 years ago, when I launched the project, it seemed like a utopian dream.
But I bet everything on it, and time has proven me right.
Today, I can boast a vast catalog of print-ready STL files, ranging from accessories for FDM printing to characters for resin printing.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t easy; in the beginning, few people believed in all of this. 3D printers were exorbitantly expensive, and it wasn’t easy to get our name out there and find customers.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a digital 3D sculptor.
I create whatever is requested of me, and over the years I’ve received some of the most bizarre commissions—from restoring ancient Bibles for the Vatican to creating medals for the military, all the way to figurines of characters of questionable taste.
With professionalism, I bring to life whatever a client desires.
I also have a line of individual files for sale, ready for download and for printing at home.
My most famous line is definitely the booknooks.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
If I had to link my work to childhood memories, it would definitely be the endless battles my friends and I used to have while playing with miniatures.
Endless afternoons and evenings spent playing board games, with miniatures, card games, or role-playing games.
Pricing:
- Prices to suit every budget: they range from individual files costing 2–3 € to huge packages costing 100 € and more.
- Commissions depend heavily on the subject and can range from 50 to as much as 300€.
