Rising Stars: Meet Flavia Moore


Today we’d like to introduce you to Flavia Moore. 

Hi Flavia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi I’m Flavia Moore owner of Crawling Crab. I launched crawling Crab out of my home kitchen June 16, 2017, it started as a side hustle to gain extra money to take my daughter on a Disney cruise. We visit Magic Kingdom annually and she wanted to do something different. After posting the first picture of my garlic crab platter on Facebook I received an overwhelming response! My phone was ringing constantly and the post went viral. I had lines of cars wrapped around the corner! After Two days of selling food from my home, I earned triple the amount of my 2-week paycheck. I had an entrepreneur stroke and decided to quit my full-time job with charter spectrum and give crawling crab my 100% of my time. At the time I didn’t even have a name for my business everyone just called it “Flavia plates” as time went on, I begun to want a food truck that’s where the name “crawling crab” came about My slogan was going to be “we have crab that will crawl to you” However my customer base grew so heavily that I knew I would need a building. A crabber of mine’s Janell recommended that I should be a vendor at a music festival that she was performing in “fem fest 2019” I accepted the offer while I was there, I served Maleah’s seafood Mac n cheese, Mini shrimp platters, and Larry legacy banana pudding. Moments after Erica Hallman finished licking the aluminum foil at the bottom of the container She immediately returned to my table and said that she would not leave until she got my contact info! She stated that my food was very good and needed in the 24:1 community (Beyond Housing) where She is the leader of their project development team. They immediately offered to lease me a commercial space inside of 24:1 coffee house and we shared the space for 1 year. In March of 2020, I became the sole tenant of a 2,500 sq ft building. Getting here wasn’t easy. I have faced many challenges along the way. Sustainability is the biggest challenge we have had several closure do to the Covid-19 pandemic keeping employees, remaining profitable, food shortage dining room closure, and restaurants being forced to shut down still facing some. I will never give up my ultimate goal is to franchise, gain financial freedom and break generational curses. 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I have faced many challenges along the way. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a restaurateur, I own the best seafood restaurant in St Louis, we specialize in Midwest style seafood and we are known for our garlic crab platter and famous garlic butter I’m am most proud of my restaurant accomplishments, winner of best seafood restaurant through Riverfront times in 2020 and best new restaurant in St Louis in 2019. Our famous garlic butter and magic dust sets us apart from the others.
