Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Maclin.
Hi Jamie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I originally started Butterfly Baby Balloons after suffering a miscarriage from an ectopic pregnancy. I was honestly devastated and unsure how I would become myself again after the hurt I was experiencing from my loss. Slowly I started trying to get inspired and find things that truly make me happy. I began doing these displays for my current position as Studio Director of Amazing Lash Studio. It was always a nice way to take my mind off work for a day and be creative in making balloons. I started researching different designs and offering them to all of my friends and family displays for free so that they could see my work and tell their friends. Once I started getting inquiries for balloons daily, I realized how lucrative this balloon business was. Plus, I was getting my therapy out of it. It was like every balloon I blew up slowly brought life back to my body, and I thank every one of my customers for helping me work through this every day. Plus, with my proceeds, I get to give back as well. I feel that ectopic pregnancy is something we do not talk about as much as we should, so I want to help by talking about my story more and hoping to inspire others to find healthy ways to work through their pain.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a bit of a bumpy road but pretty smooth sailing so far. I am very thankful for that. I realized quickly that building balloons is a very taxing job to do and takes a lot out of you if you do not have the proper help. Finding help that understands my vision made my business better. I was nervous to ask for help at first because I was the one that understood my vision. Once I learned to explain that vision to people, it made it easier to find like-minded individuals.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
One thing that I am known for everywhere is being fabulous and over the top. It was only right that I brought this same energy into my balloon business. I love paying attention to detail and always notice the little things, but I can also see the bigger picture. It was only a matter of time before I found a way to put the two together successfully. Making things beautiful has always been fun for me, so getting to do that for others is truly amazing.
What matters most to you? Why?
My amazing circle of people around me. They know who they are. Going through the most traumatic experience, I have seen to date reminded me how important the people around me are. They have been the best support system, reminding me that I will get through it. Plus, they were some of the first people to hire me for balloons and start getting the word out for my business. I would be nothing without my circle, and I am thankful for them every day
