Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennie Moore.
Hi Jennie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Being creative has been my passion since I was very young. My interest in art and history began to show as early as 3 years old. I was raised around a fantastic group of talented—passionate people who would teach me how to cultivate my passion. I began writing and creating regularly in school and at home. Fast forward to 2019, I graduated high school and felt it was time to take my first step. I created my blog, “The Diary of Jukebox Jennie.” The blog is about travel, history, and lifestyle. I also market myself as a freelance content writer, looking to expand my portfolio and gain experience. Although writing was treating me well, I greatly missed creating other types of art. As a child, I had a dream that I would start my own jewelry-making business. I decided it was time to make that happen during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020. I needed another project I could manage from home, and this old dream was perfect. Jukebox Jennie’s is now in its 3rd year of business. Being able to create and have those pieces enjoyed by others is priceless. I then nurture the curious side of my brain by adventuring and writing for the blog. It’s the best of both worlds and my idea of paradise.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Getting where I am now hasn’t been the easiest process, but it has been beyond worth it. My health has always been my primary obstacle. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 3 years old. Later I struggled with other diseases, such as PCOS and Interstitial Cystitis. I had to be pulled from public school in the 8th grade because I was too ill to continue attending. Just a few years later, I had come to terms with the fact that I could not work a regular job. This acceptance would lead me to create the blog and Jukebox Jennie’s. I needed to be able to tend to my health while working and make my hours. This way, I can create in a way that’s healthy for me. The community I’ve found through this journey has made all the challenges worth it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am both an artist and a blogger/writer. As an artist, I specialize in jewelry and accessories. My theming and inspiration come from the funky styles of the 1960s-1990s. I love using bold shapes, colors, and textures. I want my pieces to encourage others to express themselves. As a blogger/writer, I specialize in history, travel, and lifestyle. I like to write about locations that the majority still remember. I want to share the stories of those who came before us. I also enjoy sharing my travels, as the diverse cultures within the U.S. are worth sharing.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned along my journey is that it is okay to be different and make the accommodations you need for a comfortable life. Not everyone’s path looks the same, and that’s okay. I’m no longer discouraged by my disability. It has been an opportunity to learn how valuable each role in our world is. I’ve also known that it is okay to chase your passion and want to build your career out of what you love, no matter how niche. Those will always say you cannot do it, but you can. There is a place and purpose for everyone.
