Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Williams.
Hi Joshua, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Joshua Williams. I grew up in a musical family near St. Louis, MO, and I have been singing as long as I can remember.
I took the first steps to start singing professionally in 2014 while I was living in Tallahassee, FL. I auditioned and became part of a music production called Tallahassee Nights Live. Tallahassee Nights Live! Is a live music production that travels around the country performing for corporate events, festivals, concerts, and private events.
As a performer, I used that time to grow as a singer, a music director, and a songwriter. I have since branched out on my own performing my original music and doing solo shows. I consider myself to be an energetic, charismatic performer who is always ready to show my audience a good time, which is also how I received the stage name Showtime.
I moved back to the St. Louis, Illinois area in 2019, and I have had the opportunity to meet new producers, musicians, and singers as well as, perform with a couple of bands in the area.
I currently have 3 studio projects that have been released including my most recent one, “Whatever It Takes,” which was produced right here in St. Louis. I write music that people can relate to while enjoying a sound that has a unique blend of 90s R&B, and a few stylistic characteristics of today’s sound.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been anything but a smooth road. In 2017, while still living in Florida, I decided to pursue music full-time. I left my job at Florida State University and took the leap to become an independent artist and pursue my dream of being a singer. I have been betting on myself ever since.
Of course, there were also financial struggles, but I think the biggest struggle is remaining consistent in the pursuit of my dream to travel the world as an R&B superstar.
You have moments of doubt, fatigue, and feelings of complacency. There are plenty of struggles along the way, but they have all been great lessons thus far.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a singer, musician, songwriter, music director, and performer. I am most known for my energetic stage presence and for having a great time. I play piano and bass, and I am also a dancer. I have the unique ability to create my own energetic shows.
I am most proud of the original music that I have written.
While I am still trying to push it out to the masses, I know that my music resonates with those who have listened to it and that my sound is unique.
There is only one Joshua “Showtime” Williams. Obviously, the musical influences of the past are there, and you can hear them from time to time in my music, but I am still uniquely me. The way I write songs, sing them, mash them up with other popular songs is part of my unique style. I would like to think I put on a good show and create music that people can hold on and relate to.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think my consistency and authenticity have been most important when it comes to my success up to this point. I put all I have into my craft of music and performing full-time.
I have said it many times, I just present the best of myself to the world. I do not try to resemble anyone else. I think that has helped me get into some doors and make some connections that has allowed my music to be received in a positive light by those that have listened to it.
