Rising Stars: Meet Katie Willis of STL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Willis.

Hi Katie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started to work for a local animal control shelter where I started to work in 2000. After several years as working as a vet tech a new opportunity arose where they were hiring a Division Director in 2016. During those many years as working as a vet tech I realized a sad truth that no one wanted to give up their pets and sometimes they had to simply because they could not afford the spay/neuter, vaccinations, food or even a simple medical situation. Me and several like minded individuals were tired of seeing families split up or owners having to give up their beloved pets. This is how Friends of the PAC was formed. We are 5013c organization lead by me as the president along with a full board. Many of the board helps foster pets and volunteer at the shelter. We are continually fundraising to keep our non profit running.. We love helping the community!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No. It’s been a challenging one! Fundraising is so hard and it takes a lot of work and sometimes even creative ways to fund raise. Banquets, bingos, Trivia nights and markets. Keeping the money coming in is key but it’s hard. My board is awesome and do great work!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I love the diversity!
I am a director of an animal shelter and an RVT. I also have a BS in biology, Associates in Vet Technology and a Masters of public health with a veterinary emphasis. I am known for helping fosters be the best you can be. I am most proud that I can help people. I want to help the community be the best we can for all people and animals. Our compassion and care sets us apart. We are known for our care of people and animals!

What are your plans for the future?
No big plans. We want to hold more vaccine clinics and more resources for all.
