Rising Stars: Meet Kirkos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirkos.

Kirkos, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Jacob and Jordan moved here from Denver last year after stopping in St. Louis on a road trip to visit Myles, Jacob’s former roommate. Myles made a convincing case for the city, highlighting all that there is to love about St. Louis.

After a few months of practicing together as a trio, we came into contact with AJ through shared musical interests and mutual friends in the music community.

When we all came together last fall and started jamming together, it just clicked.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The Covid-19 pandemic and related economic crisis were especially hard for independent artists and venues as much of the industry is predicated upon live performance.

Several venues in St. Louis shut down indefinitely during the pandemic, leaving an already erratic scene in an even more uncertain place.

Thankfully, places like Pop’s Blue Moon provide a local space to cultivate the independent music community.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We’re a genre-bending experimental rock group that likes to push the envelope.

With a wide array of influences such as King Crimson, John Carpenter, Phish, Talking Heads, Umphrey’s Mcgee, and Medeski, Martin & Wood; we create moody soundscapes with expansive terrains that reflect the decay of our urban environment.

St. Louis is an incredibly resilient city and we strive to resonate with that in our music, crafting contrasting emotional extremes that go from despair to exuberance at a moment’s notice.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
We are a relatively new band, only forming in the fall of 2021 and debuting our first show in February of this year, so this is only the beginning for us.

We have a lot more to come, from local shows around the city, such as our upcoming show at Tamm Avenue Bar on April 30th, to festival appearances in the state and studio recordings and releases.

Check out our Facebook page (@kirkosband) for announcements and come hang out at one of our events!
