Hi, Marquis. We are so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Initially, I was supposed to be a plus-size fashion designer, but Makeup fell into play. I first started in the beauty industry by watching YouTube gurus such as Tymetheinfamous, Jackie Aina, and Aaliyah Jay. It was very inspirational to see the growth that came with the territory. My first celebrity client was someone who worked on love and hip-hop in New York. After that, my career took off, working on WeTv magazine companies, photo shoots, and being featured in TeenVogue. It wasn’t an easy journey, but I am grateful for the learning experiences I endured to get to where I am today.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve had multiple struggles with moving to different states, regaining clients, rebuilding my Brand three times, and going through creator block. An imposter syndrome is something that I believe all creators go through. The correct form to get out of that headspace is to love what you do and understand that all darkness comes to an end at some point.

I am a celebrity makeup artist. I’ve been to a Makeup for 12 years and worked in the industry for five years. I specialize in our skin tones, textures, and looks. My most serviced booking is my sculpted glam, which everyone calls soft glam. I am most proud of my journey and everything I’ve done, my achievements, and how I did not give up on myself, and being nominated for makeup artist of the year, not once but twice, and hopefully winning an award. I believe what sets me apart from the others is that I can visually understand what the client is asking for without any photos. I’m a very humble person and easy to work with.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Many people who may not know me or know of me may find it astonishing that, even though I am very outgoing, I am also very shy, more so than I am outgoing.
