Rising Stars: Meet Tamaki Harvey Stratman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamaki Harvey Stratman.

Hi Tamaki, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a museum professional by day and a lifestyle influencer by night. I created a blog and YouTube channel in 2008 to share my creativity and enjoyment of fashion and beauty with others.

While in college, I received my master’s degree in business administration and studied Fashion and Fashion Merchandising while pursuing my undergraduate degree.

I used the YouTube Channel as a way to document my haircare journey when I decided to go natural. While on my blog, I wrote about fashion and provided style tips. As the years went by, the mission of the blog and YouTube channel morphed into a lifestyle focus.

Now, in conjunction with each other, I create videos and write articles that still discuss fashion and haircare. But I also include articles and videos about my faith, home decor, traveling, handbags, perfume, and jewelry while inspiring the reading/viewer to live an elegant and graceful lifestyle.

Body image and not comparing yourself to others are topics of great importance to me and are touched on frequently in my articles and videos.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oftentimes, social media professionals will tell you that you must have one very specific niche to be able to reach your followers.

However, I found that for me it is not possible to narrow down the focus to only one topic. I found that I enjoy talking about many different topics, but that doesn’t hinder me from wanting to inspire and encourage my community to be better people.

I engage my community by talking about lifestyle topics and then providing them with encouraging words or inspiring quotes.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
For almost fourteen years, I have been creating videos and writing articles documenting my haircare journey. For many women who have decided to go natural, the journey can be challenging if they don’t have anyone who they can turn to for advice.

When watching my videos, I provide genuine and authentic reviews of products and techniques and let the viewer know how they helped or hindered my journey. Frequently, the viewer will leave a comment stating that the information provided in the video truly helped them through a difficult time, and it was a big help for them in their journey.

For me, hair care products that are vegan and all-natural are important to me. I look for these products whenever possible and provide details about them in my videos or blog posts. My community knows that if I am talking about a product, I am sure to mention how natural it is and if there are any synthetic ingredients in it.

Also, in my videos, I provide detailed reviews of handbags, including the quality of the bag’s construction, the overall practicality of the bag, and if it would be a good item to purchase. Many times, the viewer will comment to let me know they made the decision to purchase the handbag solely based on the review that I provided.

My viewers and readers know that I will provide an honest and fair assessment of the handbag or any other item that I am reviewing.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Take time to develop your voice, and don’t be afraid to change it during the journey. Use this as a time to discover who you are and how you can make a difference with what you are providing to your community.

If you have a topic that you want to talk about in a blog or on a YouTube channel, take some time to research it more in-depth. It will give you more information and a more significant edge over other people.

Look at what other people are doing similar to your voice to see how they do it and what you can learn from them.
