Rising Stars: Meet Your Friendly Neighborhood Con Artists

Today we’d like to introduce you to Your Friendly Neighborhood Con Artists.

Hello Your Friendly Neighborhood Con Artists; we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
We met in JHS and started making music. We didn’t know it at the time but oddly enough we were both inspired into music by the Ninja Turtles (laughs). We discovered that a year or so later, but even more bizarre, many many years later we discovered that 2 of our relatives who are both famous singers in the Caribbean also were friends and made music together long before we were even born. Crazy to think we happened to be born thousands of miles away in America, wound up in the same school, and both be into music. Music and partnership was apparently in our blood, and everything came to a head early 2023 when we committed to making music and video content solely inspired by our love of Ninja Turtles, comics and Anime. And it’s definitely helped us find our audience. In only 4 months we went from 0 youtube subscribers to almost 500. No money spent on ads either, all we do is show people our videos when we go to comic cons and they enthusiastically subscribe. It helps that anime fans also really like our Demon Slayer cosplay, we pull it off pretty well. Anyone that’s into Demon Slayer should definitely check us out.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
(Laughs) Easy? Being a creative, the only thing that comes easy is the actual creating. Otherwise we’ve lost jobs, gained and lost group members, different agents have tried to lock us into very unfavorable contracts, we’ve had to start over multiple times while tweaking our approach every step of the way. Figuring out who our audience is and how to reach them was probably the biggest challenge. Luckily, it’s no longer an issue.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
It’s the best thing since sliced bread…if you like sliced bread (laughs). What sets us apart from other artists, I think, is the quality of our work, our integration of costume changes during performances, and our go big or go home work ethic. We won’t release anything sub par…except for that one time but I won’t tell you which one (laughs), you have to go check out our videos to see for yourself! Our genre is called Nerdcore…Yup, it’s a real thing. Typically nerdcore artists rap/sing about being characters from anime, or about being in a situation from the anime, but we don’t take that approach. We write our songs in such a way that if you’re familiar with the anime you get all the references in the songs, but also if you have no idea or interest in anime at all it’s still a good relatable song. We made a song to go with the latest Ant Man movie, if you know Ant Man you love what we are saying, if you don’t know Ant Man you still want to dance to it. We are proud of the reactions we get.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
If you love anime, comics, cartoons, super heroes, super villains, costumes, if you like having fun, if you like good music, if you like well made videos, comedy skits, rapping, singing, or if you just want to know if we suck and if we do you want to tell us, just hop on youtube/instagram and search “Your Friendly Neighborhood Con Artists” and go for it! We like to connect with people that love the things we love, and we want to collaborate with other artists. So if you like what you see, please help us share our art with the world, while hopefully making people happy along the way!
