Say Say of Saint Louis on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Say Say shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Say Say , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’ve been enjoying sewing classes and embroidery.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Say say but my artist name is S.A.Y and it stands for someone appreciates you. I’m originally from Chicago but I found my music home in St Louis.
So I have a saying that I do before every performance. “I make music to stay sane in this crazy world that we live in.” I’m known for being the cool chill pretty laid back girl. What sets me aside from others is I’m different and I do my own thing and l don’t remind any one of anybody else. I’m just authentically myself. After being around me I know for sure you’d think “I’d never meet another say say.
I’m most proud of how far I came with my music. I formed my own live band and I think that’s pretty great. It was just me in my living room at one point in time and I didn’t know what I was doing or how I was going to start doing live band performances but I stay persistent and found a way.
I met a lot of beautiful individuals during this journey that I’m grateful for and wouldn’t have accomplished a lot without them.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with my parents.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Rejection. I think the anxiety behind the word no is terrifying, but what I learned is that the worst thing someone can say is no but if I never try or ask then how would I know ? It’s taught me resilience. If I got turned how I’d just find another way until I couldn’t

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
lol of course not. I put on a persona for music or for the internet that I’m a player and I’m P but I’m actually really a deeply passionate woman who cares a lot about everything and I’m quite sensitive. I’m a lover girl at heart but I also have a bad side that comes out of if I feel played with

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop caring about what anyone thinks of me and I would try to live life to the fullest and be carefree. I would do everything I was always scared to do times 10
