Story & Lesson Highlights with Black Millennials Mamas of St. Louis

We recently had the chance to connect with Black Millennials Mamas and have shared our conversation below.

Black , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Last year sometime, a popular author and social media influencer reached out to us review her book and to be a guest on our podcast.

We were so surprised and honored that her publicist reached out to us. We downplay our reach and think that we’re so small and local but yet we still have a large audience.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Black MillennialMamas is a podcast composed of 3 black women — Bri, mom of 1; Vikkie, mom of 3; Tasha, mom of 1.

Our podcast was made with the intention of celebrating motherhood but also sharing our experiences while going through it.

Our content is for everyone because every mother needs each other and a village. The podcast is not limited to just black women.

We’ve discussed topics such as pregnancy, postpartum depression, child loss, dating as a single mother, autism found in children, breaking generational curses and much more. We also touch on trending topics in the media from time to time.

We also host monthly mom meetups where we invite other moms to brunch, dinner and bonding activities—kid free .

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
We wouldn’t have a blueprint of what motherhood looks like without our mom’s showing it to us. They taught us the basics of motherhood, along with additional family. It takes a village.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
It taught us that the goal is there, it just may take a little longer to get there. We just have to push through the struggles to get to the goal.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
Parenting gets easier the older the kids get….…which is incorrect.
Parenting kids at their different ages is still a struggle no matter what age they are. You start out helping them do EVERYTHING. Then it gets to a point where you have to help them less and less, little by little in order for them to learn and grow; that can be hard at times.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
Truthfully, home alone with no kids, along with a good nap with no alarm clocks. (Moms need a break from the kiddos every now and then lol.)
