Story & Lesson Highlights with CJ Lyles & Janet N. Love of U City-STL

We recently had the chance to connect with CJ Lyles & Janet N. Love and have shared our conversation below.

CJ & Janet N. , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
That all we talk about is church, church church. That is not all that we talk about. We talk about various topics: restaurants, mental health, politics, anything that interests our viewers!!!!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi!!! 👋🏾 We are Cj & Janet and we are the hosts of The Pew Babies Show. The Pew Babies Show is a fun, faith-filled web show mixing humor, real-life issues, church experiences, and lively discussions for all generations. We are about to launch our 7th season in late September. Our theme for this season is, “Divine Completion (the biblical meaning of the number 7) : I am completing me”.
That means in all aspects of our lives we are seeking completion in order to upgrade to the next chapter of our lives..

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
Cj: It would most definitely be my grandmother the late but great Ernestine Jones. She was raw but that realness was full of love. She would teach me so much and all of those golden nuggets are with me today. I quote & use a lot of those nuggets in several episodes so my audience have become her grandkids as well.

Janet: I have three people. First, my mom, Sandra Love. Her hard work and perseverance most definitely helped shape me into the person that I am today. She passed late last year and I miss her so much. The second person is my Aunt/Godmother Valery Vinson. TBT she is how I created my character, “Momma Dot” she’s raw, no nonsense. Thirdly, most definitely is my favorite instructor, Vivian Anderson Watt. She encouraged me to pursue my passion for theatre.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Cj: It would definitely be, “Your uniqueness is going to be the key to your success. Continue to be authentic!” I used to go to school everyday dressed in suits and carry my bible which by the way I still have today. (looking like the Bishop hence how I got the nickname of The Bishop). Some classmates didn’t understand my style so they would make fun but in the process they appreciated me for being me.

Janet: I would say, “Girl! Save every doll you got, in years they be worth thousands!!!” lol Just kidding. I would say to myself, “You are a smart, beautiful, strong chocolate girl.Don’t ever forget that.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Cj: Two things REALLY matter to me: HONESTY and LOYALTY. Those are what I call the “Keys to the Kingdom”! Two ways to get cut off from my life, lie to me or betray me. Also, family matters whether they are by blood or by love!

Janet: Being your “true you” is one and “self care” is the other thing that really matters to me. Fakeness is a deal breaker for me. And with self care…you can’t take care of everyone else if you’re not at your best.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
Cj: I will say that I am at my MOST peace when I have completed filming the last episode for the season and I can just sit down and exhale. What we usually do is get together one weekend and film all of our shows for the season in ONE WEEKEND. Do things go wrong? Absolutely! Do we get a couple of snags!? Definitely!! But the satisfaction that I gave my all to each and every episode gives me the peace that passes all understanding.

Janet: I feel my most at peace when I by a body of water. I prefer a lake or a beach but that constant flow and the air is fresher there. I can go there and release my energy. I can go there to clear my thoughts and brainstorm on what’s next.
