Jose Gomez shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Jose, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
I think all 3 are important especially if you are lucky enough to possess and utilize all 3. I would say integrity is the most important. No one is smarter than the truth or the law. You can have the other 2 and compromise everything that you thought or planned to put your energy into. Intelligence is an asset that is very important to making the world go round. You need energy to get things done and progress. But integrity is the foundation of creation and everything we see and don’t see.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am the owner and founder of Gomez Upholstery and Art by Gomez. I’ve built my brand on integrity and hard work. Nothing is easy so you have to work hard and with the grace of God believe in yourself and your future. I provide a service for the community and they trust me to do and be the best.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My ex boss in Florida. I used to live in Miami and worked for a furniture repair company. My boss spoke words of power to me. He told me that I had a bright future and that I had youth on my side.
We would drive to Key West clean his boat and he let me know that I had lots of potential. He told me that I could be successful when I learned how to let my fears fuel my drive to reach my goals.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes there was a time. About 2 years after moving to St. Louis and starting my business, I was so frustrated and overwhelmed with keeping up with the business. Everything was so difficult and i almost closed the business. I had just started my life over and almost gave up. Luckily I stuck through it and was able to prosper and help others.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
I will always be there for my family and friends. I think being there for your loved ones will always be a top priority for me. I love my family and close ones.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I accomplish any goal that I have set my mind to. After planning and putting energy into a project or goal, I feel validated.
