Karen Korn shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Karen, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity is one of my core values for my business. I find that it builds trust and promotes honesty with my team and clients.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Karen Korn Interiors is known for our inclusive approach, where we celebrate our client’s unique aesthetic preferences, ensuring their vision is not only respected but embraced. Our goal is to prioritize their needs, offering a collaborative experience that tailors every aspect of design to suit their lifestyle.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents taught me the most about work. My dad showed me that kindness can be the driver of success. If you are kind to your coworkers and clients, you build trust and honesty and people naturally want to work with you and recommend you. My mom taught me how to see the truth behind everything and to use wisdom over emotion in making decisions.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
When my daughter was 5 months old, she was diagnosed with cancer. From that moment on, my perspective on life changed. I have not healed from that trauma completely, but it has shaped my life in the most dramatic ways. During her time of treatment and recovery, I recognized that having a home that provided peace and harmony helped ease my pain. My home felt like our sanctuary. I wanted to create that feeling for others so I pursued an interior design degree and a career as an interior designer. Bringing this sense of comfort and ease to my clients allows me to feel so much joy and is the reason why I feel so inspired in my daily work.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
I am a huge Instagram fan. I find myself scouring an image for inspiration and ideas in every space that I see. I never duplicate a space exactly, but I can use bits and pieces of a space and pepper it into our designs.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people will remember me as a kind and honest person who gave back more than I took.
