Story & Lesson Highlights with Keyshawn Gilbert of Saint Louis.

We recently had the chance to connect with Keyshawn Gilbert and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Keyshawn, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Enjoying the little moments in life, from meals with family or friends I don’t see often to even just sitting outside appreciating nature. It’s about the little moments in life that helps us remember why we do what we do.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello my name is Keyshawn Gilbert, I am a creative soul from Saint Louis that owns a clothing brand called
” STYLWKY “. I also specialize in fashion design for other brands and companies.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I personally feel as though bonds are broken by the misconception that you always have to be on the same accord in life to still be relevant in someones life. What I mean by that is this, throughout life you are given many choices and avenues to pursue while those you have said bonds with have the same choices presented to them.

The choices only provide the illusion that the options are all different paths in other directions, when in reality they could all lead to the same out come and ideals, only as long as the bond is rooted in understanding the life paths presented to the other.

One of the few ways i can think of that could help mend bonds is a proper and full hearted understanding of someones position in life and not leaving solely because they are different but accepting and recognizing those differences that help bring new attributes to the bond. A weakness is only a weakness,
if you treat it as one.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has a funny way of building someone for success…. Through my suffering I realized who I was and what I need to be able to maintain the vast amount of success that I strive for. The traits you learn with suffering while keeping an open mind and heart to new opportunities keeps you grounded , yes it may suck right now but that doesn’t mean this isn’t helping me to make things great later through the lessons I’ve learned in my suffering.

People want to win without knowing how to lose first.. By losing you learn many things about yourself and the situation you are trying to conquer. The failures is what helps give way to new breakthroughs in the pursuit of better times. I’ve been learning that a lot in life as I’m getting older, people around you going through there trials and tribulations while navigating your own can be overwhelming but that same weight can be shifted to make momentum towards a better direction to not only help just yourself but those around you as well.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I believe in my project of STYLWKY
( Stay LowKey) because I view it as more than clothes or fashion. I vision this community I want to build as something that touches every industry through the various people that support and believe that there is more to life than what is promoted. Yes through material things we can have happiness and some pieces of satisfaction in ourselves but at the core, its what those material things manifest from it and thats new moments and interactions with people we may not have had if we didn’t have said material.

I’m certain by expressing that through my brand and clothing items I can show that you don’t need the most to stand out and pursue the real things that hold value in life while still having something to feel good about you and who you are or strive to be.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
The value in the little moments of life….. Sitting outside in nature, grocery shopping with loved ones,
A quiet moment chilling with friends, eating dinner with family, a random conversation at a store…… In moments like this we can really view our lives at its core of what matters in life and what can heal more than any medicine…..I’m not sure most get what I mean by this but one day they will…
